Home win for Veloce Racing at Hydro X Prix
Veloce Racing produced a phenomenal victory in Sunday’s (14 May) Hydro X Prix in Scotland as the young British squad returned to the top of the Extreme E standings.
Competing at its home event in front of family, guests and loyal partners E.ON, the team had it all to do after a tough start to the day in Qualifying 1.
Both Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen drove brilliantly to bring the car home in third despite a broken driveshaft in the opening session, but the talented duo were finally able to show their true potential in Q2 when they blasted to victory with a near perfect performance.
As the second-best qualifier overall, the team entered the Grand Final full of confidence and that belief soared even further when Hansen made one of the best starts of his career so far.
The Swedish superstar made a fantastic getaway off the line and then expertly squeezed the car of title rival ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team into turn one. Hansen grabbed the lead as he exited the corner, whilst a fight for second ensued behind.
Hansen handed over the car to Taylor at mid-distance and the Australian set about keeping the chasing pack at bay, which she did in commanding fashion until the finish.
The #5 E.ON-backed ODYSSEY 21 crossed the line to take Veloce Racing’s second victory of the season and the third podium from the opening four races of the 2023 campaign.
Veloce Racing lead the overall standings by 11 points, with the Extreme E season now moving on to the Island X Prix in Sardinia on 8/9 July.
Molly Taylor, Veloce Racing driver, said: "What a feeling! We have experienced the highs and lows of an Extreme E weekend, but you really get to see the strength of a team when they respond to the challenges that we faced yesterday. There is such a good feeling in this team and Kevin drove brilliantly too, so I couldn’t be happier. It’s great to be leading the standings but there’s a long way to go and now we will focus on Sardinia."
Kevin Hansen, Veloce Racing driver, said: "The start was pretty perfect, and we were able to execute a fantastic race. I tried to keep the gap before handing over to Molly, and she did an amazing job to bring the car home in P1. The team has done such an incredible job… we knew we were fast after practice on Friday, but things didn’t quite go our way yesterday. It's great to get the victory in front of our amazing partners at our team's home race."
Daniel Bailey, CEO, Veloce Racing, said: "I am so proud of everyone in this team and we are delighted to have achieved this success with our partners from E.ON here with us, as well as many other guests, family and friends. Kevin and Molly have done such an amazing job, and to bounce back from a frustrating day yesterday to take another win and the championship lead is absolutely fantastic."
